Rosin Resin (also historically known as Greek Pitch) is a solid, translucent, natural plant resin obtained as a residue from the distillation of coniferous (pine) turpentine. It appears as glassy, friable, amber-colored fragments. Thanks to its extraordinary adhesive capacity, high binding power, and low-temperature thermal fusibility, it is one of the most versatile and widely used raw materials in wood restoration, lutherie, craftsmanship, graphic art techniques, sports, and electronics.

Fields of Application

Wood Restoration, Cabinetmaking, and Traditional Varnishes

• Varnish formulation: soluble in both alcohol and turpentine essence, it gives oil or alcohol-based varnishes greater adhesion, elasticity, and a warm, golden sheen.
• Restoration fillers and waxes: melted while hot together with beeswax and mineral pigments, it allows for the creation of resin-waxes for repairs, wax fillers, and historical putties for cracks in antique wood.

Music and Lutherie

• Instrument finishing: a classic ingredient in historical varnish recipes for stringed instruments and guitars.
• Bow hair treatment: pure rosin is the fundamental base for treating the hair of violin, viola, cello, and double bass bows, creating the necessary friction to make the strings vibrate with sonic purity.

Sports, Dance, and Anti-slip (Grip)

• Sole grip: finely powdered, it is used by classical dancers on the soles of their shoes to prevent slipping on linoleum or parquet floors.

Instructions for Use

• For varnishes and finishes: pulverize the fragments and dissolve in isopropyl alcohol or pure turpentine essence, stirring until completely dissolved. Filter before use to remove any micro-impurities.
• For hot mixtures and putties: melt in a gentle water bath (never over a direct flame for safety reasons), adding beeswax or vegetable oils until the desired consistency is achieved.
• For anti-slip or sports use: crush the resin until reduced to a powder and apply directly to contact or friction points.
